Liverpool 3-0 Sunderland

From the opening ten minutes Sunderland's defensive intent was obvious. They jad the look of a team willing to put 10 men behind the ball and hope for a draw. So it was obvious that Liverpool needed an early goal to undo that whole idea.

And they got it on 18 minutes when youngster Raheem Sterling was put the Reds ahead following a purely instinctive pass by Luis Suarez set the 18 year old through 1 on 1 with keeper Simon Mignolet. Sterling eventually chipped the already bouncing ball over the Black Cats keeper to give Liverpool the lead. It was 2-0 just 8 minutes later and it was that man again, Luis Suarez for his 14th Premier League goal of the season. The ball was sent to the wing and a race between Carlos Cuellar an Suarez saw the Uruguayan come away with the ball after Cuellar fell over (his second error in two games). Suarez then turned the ball goalwards and ran at Mignolet until he was close to slid the ball between his legs and make it 2-0. Sunderland offered very little and their best chance came from a Seb Larsson cross which fell to Mathew Kilgallon whose shot was saved by Reina and put out for a corner before the onrushing Kilgallon could pounce for a second attempt. Liverpool picked up where they left off after half time and again made Sunderland pay when a long ball forward for captain Steven Gerrard fell to Luis Suarez who controlled the ball brilliantly then simply placed the ball past Mignolet and make it 3-0. Glen Johnson had the ball in the net on76 minutes but Left Glen Johnson was judged to be offside. It was a narrow but correct decision which was a shame because it was a great finish by the England international. A big night for one of Liverpool's all time legends. His substitute appearence meant Jamie Carragher has now appeared for Liverpool in the league over 480 times. Second only to the infamous Ian Callahan. Joe Allen looked lively since coming on and look like a good bet to get his first goal for the club. He even had the ball in the net with three minutes to go but his frustration continued when he saw the linesman's flag up for offside. Key man for Liverpool today was inspirational striker Luis Suarez. His movement was fantastic and bagging two goals in fantastic style made him the man of the match for today.
